Richard Schafer, Maj (ret.) USMC, CEO and Founder, JROTC Leadership Advantage
After serving on active duty in the Marine Corps for twenty years, Mr. Schafer started his JROTC career at Lincoln High School, Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 2001. In 2006, he was hired as Director, Region One, Marine Corps JROTC, where he was responsible for the personnel and operations of fifty high school JROTC units, a position he held for nine years. During this time, Mr. Schafer developed at keen appreciation of the role JROTC plays in improving the lives of those cadets participating. Particularly of the need for graduating JROTC cadets to get a boost to continue their education after high school. After retiring from JROTC in 2016, he founded a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit called JROTC Leadership Advantage, an organization with a stated mission to help JROTC cadets continue their education with the help of academic financial aid scholarships.
